CCTV installation in Uganda: what matters
Camera count matters less than camera placement. A smaller number of correctly positioned cameras at entry points, cash points and stores will produce identifiable footage, while a large number of poorly placed cameras produces hours of unusable video.
Two practical Ugandan considerations: night performance, since many incidents happen in low light and infrared range is often overstated; and power continuity, since a recorder that stops during an outage defeats the system. We specify backup power with every installation.
Retention period drives storage. We size recording capacity to the number of days of footage you actually need to keep.
Installation, training and maintenance
Installation includes cabling, configuration, remote viewing on authorised phones or computers, and training your staff on retrieving and exporting footage. We hand over system documentation and credentials to a named owner.
Maintenance visits — cleaning lenses, verifying recording, checking storage and backup power — keep a system working. Most failed CCTV systems in Uganda were never maintained after installation.
